South Yorkshire Police and Crime Commissioner
2 hrs · Edited ·

The PCC has commissioned an independent review in light of of the concerns raised in relation to recent media coverage;

Earlier today the South Yorkshire Police and Crime Commissioner held meetings to review the chronology of events which led to South Yorkshire Police’s decision to notify the BBC of the date of the house search, which took place in Berkshire on 14 August, in order to protect the integrity of their investigation.

As a result of today’s meetings, he has decided to commission an independent review of the events which took place to form the rationale behind their decision making.

The Commissioner is keen to ensure a full, fair and transparent analysis of actions taken and to determine if they were aligned with the College of Policing Guidance on Relationships with the Media relevant to such disclosure.

He has therefore appointed former Chief Constable Andy Trotter, former chair of the national police Communications Advisory Group, who was instrumental in developing the guidance on behalf of the College, post-Leveson Inquiry.

Following the acknowledgement by the BBC that South Yorkshire Police was not the original source of the leak, questions still need to be answered as to the actual source of the leak.

Scotland Yard detectives believe Madeleine was abducted in "a criminal act by a stranger"

No Janine you poor deluded muppet, I am NOT John Lowe.
And neither, thankfully, are you.
