A thoughtful piece on the difference between feeling down and suffering from clinical depression.

"Robin Williams's death: a reminder that suicide and depression are not selfish

News of Robin Williams’s death due to apparent suicide, said to be a result of suffering severe depression, is terribly sad. But to say taking your own life because of such an illness is a ‘selfish’ act does nothing but insult the deceased, potentially cause more harm and reveal a staggering ignorance of mental health problems"

He had loving family and friends and my thoughts go out to them.

We're all going to go sometime, but some people seem to go "before their time", whatever that means. Those who are missed the most leave a void... because they gave so much.

Good piece indeed.

Most of us fear death and do all we can to stay alive. Inmates on death row seldom make the most cheerful company.

Circumstances that drive a person to terminate their own life are extreme and abnormal indeed; the antithesis of the usual instinct to cling to life at all cost and any cost.

Selfishness is certainly not the right word for it; maybe, for tyrants like Hitler, but not otherwise.

In a lengthy ruling on Tuesday [28-04-2015], Amaral was found guilty of libelling the pair and ordered to pay them €250,000 each in damages. The judge also banned further sale of his book, the Truth of the Lie.
