After reading around the dross on UK Injustice ...

Post by honestbroker1 » Fri May 18, 2018 11:05 am

(and those of sound mind on the subject of Madeleine's disappearance who post on that board, several of them, are not, in my opinion, doing nearly enough to counter the dross) I came across this:

https://www.9news.com.au/world/2018/05/ ... n-portugal
Last year, in what is a final throw of the dice, the McCanns lodged an appeal at the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR), trying to overturn the 2017 decision by Portugal's Supreme Court.
Confirmation that the McCanns have, indeed, lodged an appeal with European Court of Human Rights.

Whilst it's probably fair to say that Amaral himself was too incompetent *to organise anything, the agenda was set BY THE PJ.

It's all in Mark Harrison's report, if anyone wants to take the trouble and time to read it:
The terms of assistance we agreed to provide were directed by the PJ Regional Director, Guilhermino ENCARNACO after consultation with DI Neil HOLDEN of the Leicestershire Police and myself, the details of which are on page two of the document I authored, titled “Decision Support Document in the Search for Madeleine McCann” dated 23.07.2007 and presented as evidence MH4.

From chapter 16 of Amaral's book:
After a week of intense work, Harrison presents the results of his study to my coordinating group. Even if we were expecting it, his conclusions confirm our worst fears. The most plausible scenario is the following: there is no doubt that Madeleine is dead, and her body is hidden somewhere in the area around Praia da Luz. He praises the quality of the work carried out by the Portuguese authorities in trying to find the little girl alive. According to him, the time has come to redirect the searches in order to find, this time, a body hidden in the surrounding area.
Harrison, in fact, was instructed by the PJ, by Amaral's boss, the now late Guilhermino Encarnaco, to investigate that Madeleine had been murdered and buried. As part of his strategy to investigate that scenario, Harrison recommended the recruitment to the investigation of the freelance Martin Grime and his dogs.

The key point: in investigating that scenario, Harrison was carrying out the instructions of the PJ, of Amaral's boss, Encarnaco.

Harrison ruled out burial and offered his own (tentative) view that if Madeleine was dead, it was most likely her remains had been thrown into the sea.

Making a mockery of the section of Amaral's book I quote from above.

From the beginning of Mark Harrison's third report:
In complying with these terms I undertook a series of briefings and site visits. These were with GNR and PJ personnel who had been involved in the previous searches conducted the week following Madeleine McCann’s disappearance in Praia da Luz.

The output of this process of reconnaissance and review was a written document entitled “Madeleine McCann Search Decision Support Document” (see appendix 2) and submitted to the PJ with copies supplied to Leicestershire Police and NPIA on 23-07-07.

It recommended considering re searching:

- All accommodation occupied by the McCann family and their friends as well as any hired vehicles.

- The villa and garden occupied by Robert Murat and any vehicles he had access to.

- Areas of wasteland adjacent to Murat’s and the McCann’s apartment.

- Areas of the beach in Praia da Luz.

- A portion of the coastline east of Praia da Luz.

These recommendations were based on the fact that these areas had not been previously searched with the specific intent to locate Madeleine McCann’s concealed and deceased body and that the areas recommended afforded likely and obvious places to consider for concealment in such an investigation.

This document was discussed on 23-07-07 with the PJ Director, myself and the Leicestershire Police liaison officer DI Neil Holden who made relevant notes.
We know that Mark Harrison was an astute and erudite chap.

Who believes he wrote, with a straight face, that the villa the McCanns moved in to long after a full-scale police and civilian search for Madeleine had been mounted, and about which (the villa) the McCanns knew nothing until just before they moved in to it might be (sic) an obvious place to search for Madeleine's concealed and deceased remains?

Anyone?

That is still more absurd than the idea that a vehicle hired 3 weeks after Madeleine's abduction might have been used to take her somewhere.

Mark Harrison's, own (tentative) conclusion, at the end of his third and final report:
I am currently of the opinion on the available information and statistical datasets that if death has occurred, that it is possible that Madeleine McCann’s body has been disposed into the sea at Praia da Luz. (See my second report entitled “NPIA OP TASK Search Doc Beach and Marine”).
Making a mockery of Amaral's claims about what Harrison said in chapter 16 of (Amaral's) book.

What Amaral claims Harrison had to say about statistics:
AMAZING STATISTICS
Great Britain has at its disposal the world’s biggest data bank on homicide of children under five years old. Since 1960, the count is 1528. Harrison is well acquainted with its contents. He often draws information from there which helps him to resolve similar cases. Valuable information can be found there on on various criminal modus operandi, places where bodies are hidden, techniques used to get rid of a body. He relates that on one occasion, thanks to the data, he was able to deduce the maximum distance a body might be found in relation to where the crime had been committed.
The figures quoted in the report he hands over give us the shivers. The crimes, including those of a sexual nature, are committed by the parents in 84% of cases; 96% are perpetrated by friends and relatives. In only 4% of them is the murderer or abductor a total stranger to the victim. In this roundabout way, Mark Harrison points out that the guilty party may be a person close to Madeleine, and even her own parents. From now on, we have to explore this track, especially as the others have proved fruitless.
In an edit, I will add what Harrison actually said about statistics.
Homicide Disposal Datasets

A limited search has been conducted of datasets that contain body disposal
data in homicide cases (CATCHEM, SCAS, FBI). Although this search was
limited due to the time constraints placed on this reports delivery an inference
can be gained from both the data sets and the authors own case work
experience. I have also consulted with NPIA and FBI colleagues to benefit
from their experiences.
The conclusion inferred is that beach burial is extremely rare. This should not
surprise us as to dig on a beach is a high risk activity requiring expending time
and energy when a more 'least effort" disposal is readily available, that is
directly into the sea.
Of those limited cases that were found to be a beach
disposal the overwhelming majority were surface depositions with only one
recorded concealment using rocks on top of a 2 year old child
(CATCHEM
Database)
Harrison emphatically ruled out burial after, earlier, hypothetically, musing that large, free-standing rocks on the beach might have been used to conceal a body.

Harrison's (later) reference to statistical data-bases prompted him to all but rule out that option.

Amaral mangled and misrepresented the work of Mark Harrison in a way that assuredly libelled the McCanns.

The other point to note, of course, is that, contrary to Amaral's claim, Harrison didn't consult a UK statistical data base, but one of the FBI.

(The FBI had to figure somewhere, even if it figured nowhere in respect of the training of Eddie).

OK it does look as if Catchem and SCAS are UK. So it does look as if Amaral got something right.

Confirmation of what Harrison was instructed, by the PJ, to investigate:
This report considers solely the possibility that Madeleine McCann has been murdered and her body is concealed within the areas previously searched by Police in Zone 1 around Praia Da Luz. Other scenarios or possibilities may on request be considered and be subject of a further report.
Nothing in the files, certainly that we read on line, suggests Mark Harrison was ever invited to investigate anything else.

Mark Harrison's work in ruling out burial, shamelessly plagiarised by Amaral in his book.
Sub Surface Burial on P D Luz Beach

For Body Disposal Purposes The Beach Can Be Separated And
Discussed Into 6 Areas.

Figure 2.The boulders in the rock falls are too large
to man handle. Vegetative growth suggests rock
falls have been in situ for some time. The low energy
wave action would not move any of the boulders. It
is possible a small child could be secreted amongst
the rocks in natural voids.

Figure 3.The cliff edge at the base of the beach is at
an angle that inhibits soil removal. The shale re fills
any hole dug and is unsuitable to achieve a burial.

Figure4.At the base of the cliff are wave cuts where
the bedrock has been eroded by wave action. Here
sand can be easily dug but after a few centimetres
the digger reaches the bed rock, preventing a
successful burial.

Figure 5.The beach cusps or berms are mounds of
sand made by wind action. These cusps form at the
limit of the tides reach and would only be recovered
in storm conditions. Digging on the cusps is easy but to achieve as
more than a few centimetres depth is very difficult to
the fine sand granules refill the hole

Figure 6.The dark sand in this image shows the
intertidal area. Here digging and burial could
possibly be achieved although it would be through a
mixture of grave1 and water. However any burial
would be quickly exposed by wave action and
ultimately taken into the sea.
In Amaral's account in his book, he is begged by his wife to quit the investigation after she has found the body of their dog with head-injuries.

In a reference Amaral clearly wants his reader to link with the (accurate) reaction of Eddie to spots of Gerry's blood on the ignition-key of the Renault Scenic, Amaral adds that he (sic) uses his car to take the body of the hapless dog to the place where he will attempt to bury the body.

Then Amaral realises how much 'easier' it would be to hide, rather than bury, a body.

Shameless plagiarism of the work of Mark Harrison in all except that Harrison's conclusions (formed from proper detective-work) were the diametric opposite of Amaral's, formed from fantasy and invention.
