I'm still trying to find information that doesn't come from a tabloid of either flavour on what is envisaged to replace EAWs and rapid DNA tests post-Brexit...

Not a huge amount of success so far, bar this:

Brexit: The European Arrest Warrant inquiry launched
Hands gripping bars
22 March 2017

The EU Home Affairs Sub-Committee launches a new inquiry into Criminal Justice Cooperation with the EU after Brexit: The European Arrest Warrant.

Inquiry: Criminal Justice cooperation with the EU After Brexit: The European Arrest Warrant
EU Home Affairs Sub-Committee

Background

The House of Lords EU Committee and its six Sub-Committees are conducting a coordinated series of short inquiries looking at the key issues that will arise in the forthcoming negotiations on Brexit.
Scope of the Inquiry

The inquiry will follow up on the Sub-Committee's previous report on Brexit: UK-EU security and police cooperation by examining more closely how the Government’s intention to "bring an end to the jurisdiction of the Court of Justice of the European Union in the UK" will affect the UK’s ability to sustain "deep cooperation" with the EU and its Member States in the fight against crime and terrorism. The Sub-Committee will explore this issue through a specific case study of the options for replacing the European Arrest Warrant (EAW) after the UK leaves the EU.

The inquiry will explore what the transition to a new arrangement could look like and whether an interim arrangement would be any easier to negotiate than a permanent replacement for the EAW. The Sub-Committee will also examine what a "bespoke" arbitration or dispute resolution mechanism, as envisaged by the Government, could look like in this area.

The Committee will begin taking oral evidence for this inquiry in late March.

Julian Cadman: British boy confirmed as being among victims of Barcelona attack

"We are so blessed to have had him in our lives," Julian Cadman's family said as they confirmed he died in the van attack.

Sunday 20 August 2017

Julian Cadman is believed to be the boy with dual British nationality who is missing

British boy Julian Cadman was among the 13 people killed in the Barcelona terror attack, it has been announced.

The seven-year-old died after a van was deliberately crashed into pedestrians on Las Ramblas on Thursday.

His family said: "We are so blessed to have had him in our lives and will remember his smiles and hold his memory dear to our hearts."

The Spanish missing persons bureau had earlier confirmed his death.

In a statement, it said: "Julian Cadman's family has told us he is unfortunately one of the victims of the attack and has asked us to thank all the people who have spread the news.

"In these very unjust, hard and painful moments, we accompany Julian's family and friends. Rest in peace.

"Once again we wish to reiterate our appreciation and involvement in your search."

Catalonian emergency services also confirmed that a British-Australian boy had died in the attack, which also left at least 120 others injured.

Following Thursday's atrocity, it had been unclear what had happened to Julian, who had dual British-Australian nationality.

He was separated from his mother, who was badly injured and she is said to be in a serious condition in hospital.

Family members shared a picture of Julian in an attempt to find him.

His father and grandmother were believed to have arrived in Spain on Saturday after travelling from Australia.

Police said the van driver was part of a Islamist extremist cell which also attacked members of the public in the coastal resort of Cambrils a few hours later.

A woman was killed in the second vehicle rampage, and several other civilians were injured, along with a police officer.

Some 34 nationalities were among those hurt in Las Ramblas and Cambrils, which lies around 70 miles to the south west.
