Before further ado, here is Paulo Reis' first impression, having followed the couple, as a highly respected investigative journalist, during the first days in Praia da Luz.
----------

My opinion of Kate and Gerry McCann

I don’t believe, as a journalist, that the McCanns are, in any way, related with the abduction of Madeleine. I’ve been following this case, not only in the Web – I was also at Praia da Luz, for one week (May 17 to May 23). For the last two months, I also have followed the news on the Net very carefully and closely.

So, based on all the information I collected, either during my stay in Praia da Luz or in the Net, as a journalist, I CAN’T SEE THE SLIGHTEST EVIDENCE THAT GERRY AND KATE HAD SOMETHING TO DO WITH HER DAUGTHER DISAPEARENCE.

And I AM ABSOLUTELY SURE, WITH THE INFORMATION I HAVE, NOW, THAT THERE IS NOTHING THE MCCAN CAN BE ACCUSED OF, FROM A LEGAL OR CRIMINAL POINT OF VIEW. I may be wrong, but I STRONGLY BELIEVE THE CHANCE OF BEING WRONG IS VERY SMALL: 0,1 per cent, as I'm 99, 9 per cent sure of what I say.

As a human being, a common man, father of two boys (one, 22 years old, the other 11) let me tell you this: I was at an arm’s distance from the McCanns, when they gave a Press Conference at Praia da Luz. I looked into the eyes of Kate McCann and I saw so much pain and suffering that I had to take a deep breath to control myself, to avoid tears coming to my eyes and not let emotion overcome me! I was schocked to see so much pain in her eyes and in her look! That's someting that only people that has kids can understand and feel!

Alípio Ribeiro already hinted that the elements of the PJ of the Algarve were responsible for the leakage of information, while they denied it. And the exchange of accusations between Lisbon and the Algarve rose in tone until the departure of Gonçalo Amaral.

I think it would of taken Sandra Felgueiras a lot of gumption to make that statement, quite simply Amaral flat out lied and she saw through him and his cohorts.
Gumption AND integrity, Ali.

Martin Grime, one of the coaches, revealed that Eddie, the dog who had blood-stained the car, had already had six years of operations and more than 200 successful cases. However, the truth is that there is no record of the animal's success rate to support this claim. All traces found by dogs must always be supported by forensic evidence that has never been found - according to forensic inspectors, who give their testimony throughout the documentary, no blood was ever found in the luggage compartment of the car or behind the sofa in the apartment. The DNA found in the Ocean Club housing was inconclusive and could belong to anyone.

During the search, the two dogs surrendered by the British police detected odor of corpse in apartment 5A in Praia da Luz, where the child disappeared, as well as blood in the car that the couple rented a month after the disappearance of their daughter.

In the interview, Mr Mitchell also appeared to reference speculation in the documentary, and among viewer reactions to the series, that child trafficking could explain Maddie's disappearance.

He said the British authorities assured him the little girl's disappearance was a "rare case of stranger abduction" and not a crime of family involvement, adding a sexual motive, is an "obvious" possibility.

He added that seeing other cases of other missing children being found alive after many years left the McCanns with hope Maddie may yet be found alive.

He said he doesn't believe the "ridiculous" conspiracy theories circulating about Madeleine's disappearance. He said: "One of the most ridiculous conspiracy theories I have heard was that Madeleine was born as the result of a government cloning project.

"People also assumed the worst. That [the McCanns] were getting drunk, that they were having fun and that they did not care about their children."

Instead, he offers a rare insight into the case, that isn't heard much in Madeleine's story. At the time, Portuguese laws said information regarding the investigation was to remain private. Because of this, the McCann perspective was never really heard. Clarence Mitchell may not work as much with the McCanns now, but he still has an idea about what might have happened to Maddie.

He told The Telegraph: "I asked the British authorities what they think happened and if there was any family involvement, and they assured me it was just a rare case of stranger abduction.

"It’s very rare, but it can happen."

He says a sexual motive is an "obvious" possibility, and Kate and Gerry remain hopeful, as there have been "other cases, where a missing child has been found alive after many years." Plus, "the complete absence of any evidence that Madeleine has been physically harmed" is the reason Madeleine could still be alive.

Clarence believes Maddie was chosen, and abducted. "A child was taken to order from that room."

McCann family spokesman Clarence Mitchell says Madeleine WAS abducted by a stranger but he has not given up hope that she could still be alive
Clarence Mitchell, 57, said 'a child was taken to order from that room'
He said he and Madeleine's parents believe the lack of evidence she was harmed, and previous cases of missing children's reappearance, gives them hope
He continues to hope the entire case will end happily with a single phone call
Three-year-old Madeleine vanished from a holiday apartment in Portugal's Praia da Luz in May 2007 while her parents were dining in a nearby tapas restaurant
